Products
The Nextronex® Ray-MaxTM System is more than a solar inverter – it is a complete kit of components for the solar array wiring requirements. The system is modular and is designed for applications from 100 kW and above, broken down into 9 distinct kits. Above 100 kW, where multiple inverters are used, the Nextronex system utilizes a proprietary distributed architecture that is patent protected, and offers the best energy harvesting and long term reliability available in the industry.
The building blocks of the The Nextronex® Ray-MaxTM System include:
Ray-MaxTM Solar Inverter
The heart of the Ray-MaxTM System, this is a state-of-the art 150 kW transformerless inverter approved for operation with DC string voltages up to 1000 V DC. Using advanced heat transfer techniques (no liquids), in a low profile cabinet (27” high), this inverter has total flexibility as to it’s placement in an array, on a roof, or in an equipment room. The inverter operates at full power up to 40 C, and the components are sealed against atmospheric contamination and moisture ingress when used outdoors. The inverter is certified to the UL 1741 / IEEE 1547 standard for both the US and Canada. Housed in a heavy gage steel cabinet, with a marine grade gloss white powder finish, this inverter stay’s cool in the hot sun.
The inverter is fully compliant with the UL 1741 / IEEE 1547 safety requirements, and when used in a stand – alone application (no master controller), will manage it’s MPPT and grid interconnect safety functions. Self protected against all forms of overheating, overcurrent, etc., this is a highly reliable design, with all active components mounted on a chassis that can be swapped out in 30 minutes if service is required over its lifetime.
When used in a Ray-MaxTM system, the inverter accepts commands from the master controller which controls when it is active (on-line) and whether it is the “master” for that day, or one of the slaves. In Master mode, the inverter manages the MPPT function for the entire array, communicating to the controller when it needs additional capacity from the other inverters to harvest the available energy.
The Ray-MaxTM inverter has a peak efficiency of 98 % (CEC listed as 95.5 % with a matching transformer) and includes an extended 20-year warranty.
Smart Controller
A PLC based controller housed in a NEMA 3R enclosure programmed to control the inverters in the Ray-MaxTM system. An integral display screen provides the AC power and Energy information for the entire array, optional string-level DC power monitoring, inputs for weather and sunlight sensors, and complete diagnostic and monitoring of the inverters.
The cabinet includes forced ventilation and a heater to insure reliable operation from – 25 C to + 45 C.
An Ethernet port is included, along with mod bus capabilities and an internet address.
Multi-Primary Load Center (utility transformer)
A Nextronex exclusive – a one box solution that combines the functions of inverter isolation transformer, utility step-up transformer, fuses and disconnects (panel board), and lightning protection in one box. All at an efficiency approaching 99 %. These are forced convection air-cooled units with integral fan control, and output voltage up to 15 kV. In a low profile cabinet that can be placed near the inverters to minimize AC cable runs. Three sizes are available for both 600 V and 1000 V system configuration , combinations of which can meet all system requirements.
These units are forced convection air cooled, with temperature sensors embedded in the transformer, available for connection to the PLC for thermal monitoring and safety cut-out. Available secondary distribution voltages to 15 kV.
Power Strip
The Connection Point for the DC (solar array) wiring. A very high current DC bus available in 10 ft (3 m) sections that are flanged to allow multiple sections to be bolted together. With end bells and mounting legs engineered for proper expansion and contraction in all climates. The DC String wiring terminates in the strip, and the inverters all connected to this same strip, which is how the array power is funneled to as few inverters as needed based on the instantaneous sunlight level. The Solar Power Strip is also the mounting point for the optional multi-input zone boxes.
Optional Components
- Multiple input zone boxes with fusing, lightning protection, and safety disconnect
- CT transducers for string level DC monitoring
- I/O and telemetry options in the smart controller.
- Nextronex Weather Center
The Ray-MaxTM Kits
Nextronex has developed a standard “kit” applicable for solar array’s from 100 kW thru 1.5 mW. The basic kit includes the required # of Ray-MaxTM Solar Inverters, sufficient DC Bus section to land the DC home runs, a Smart Controller, and the corresponding load center configuration.
Value Added Benefits
Optional components include:
- Increased energy output
- Greater reliability through a more serviceable system yielding more uptime
- Reduced installation costs
