5 simple steps to sytem design

Technical

The Nextronex® Ray-MaxTM System provides the next generation system design, ready to be integrated and installed in locations today. It's a new design paradigm that sheds new light on energy efficiency from start to finish.

The First U.S. Approved 1000V inverter Manufacturer

The Nextronex® Ray-MaxTM System is the first U.S. approved 1000V domestically available inverter and wiring system. Operating at higher DC voltage improves efficiency, and minimizes copper losses. It is also simpler to series connect panels than to parallel connect them. For example, for a given array size, going from 6 panels in a series to 10 panels in a series reduces the number of parallel connections by 40%.

We include a highly efficient output coupling transformer as part of the system. For a single inverter, stand alone system, this will be a 150 kVA unit with the required turns ratio to match the inverter AC output with the required AC mains voltage. Using the same example of 10 Cd:Te panels in series gives a DC voltage of 680 Volts at the operating point. The maximum AC voltage is 435 Volts and the maximum power is 165 kW. Using a 360/390 volt primary and a 480 v secondary will couple the inverter output to a 480 V line.

In a multiple inverter installation, we have a complete load center available which incorporates 4 primary windings to accommodate up to 4 inverters, and one secondary winding that can be wound for any medium distribution voltage. This load center includes all required switching and fusing and lightning protection in one cabinet, eliminating the need for a panel board. With a rated 99% efficiency, and no individual inverter transformers, the overall system efficiency of the Nextronex system can be as high as 96.5% vs. less than 93% for competing systems.

Putting It All Together

The preferred orientation of the Nextronex system is to have the DC Bus run along the central portion of the array from north to south, with symmetrical rows of solar panels on either side. Typically, a 20 f1. wide clearing will accommodate the bus duct, inverters, PLC controller and load center and still provide clearance for vehicles. With 10 panels in series, and close proximity of the DC Bus, each row requires only 4500 ft. of wire and no fuses. In the original installation, over 832,000 ft. of wire was required to connect 772 kW. The equivalent length for the 399 kW of the phase 4 installation would be 430,000 f1. of wire. In our system less than 85,000 ft. of wire was used; less than 20% of the initial installation requirements.
